Strengthening Holland’s Neighborhoods
Since 2005, Jubilee Ministries has invested in Midtown Center, aiming to offer office accommodations to local nonprofits at rates below market standards. The events venue within the Midtown Center, known as The Study Hall, facilitates both corporate and nonprofit gatherings and contributes directly to the continued affordability of office spaces for nonprofit occupants of the Midtown Center. Serving as a focal point for community engagement in Holland, the Midtown Center fosters a vibrant hub of activity.
100 Years of History
The Midtown Center has a deep history and connection to the city of Holland. Long before it housed local community organizations, it was home to the students, teachers and staff of Holland Public Schools.
In 1913, Holland High opened the location that is now the Midtown Center. The Study Hall had a slanted floor and a full height stage at the front. Students would see how far coins, balls or other objects could roll on the floor. This three story building held classes until 1962 when it closed as Holland High and became the Junior High. Jubilee bought the Midtown Center in 2005 with the dream of revitalizing the city’s core. The transformed classrooms now house a variety of community focused nonprofits.
Holland Public Schools builds the high school building.
The high school relocates to its current location and the E.E Fell Junior High building and the old high school building combine into the new junior high.
Holland Community Education moves in and the building is remodeled.
Jubilee Ministries buys the Midtown Block and begins extensive renovations.
In the Fall, the first 3 tenants, Jubilee Ministries, Young Life and LAUP, move into the Midtown Center.
10 community and nonprofit organizations now occupy the remodeled classrooms.
12 organizations now occupy the 28 suites in the building, bringing the center to full occupancy.
